• the menstrual cycle is a 28 day cycle that prepares the female reproductive system for a potential pregnancy

• around day 7 of the menstrual cycle,the period stops and the uterus lining starts to build up back again. an egg also begins to mature in one of the ovaries
• on the 14th day,the egg is released from the ovary,leaving behind an empty follicle,this is called ovulation.the egg travels through the fallopian tubes and can now be fertilised
• after a few days,if the egg is not fertilised,the uterus lining begins to breakdown again to restart the menstrual cycle.
• if the egg is fertilised,it implants the uterus lining.the woman is now pregnant
