  • during puberty,reproductive hormones cause secondary sex characteristics to develop (underarm hair,breast development ,deepening of voice)
  • testosterone is a male hormone,produced by the testes,that stimulates sperm production
  • there are 4 hormones that regulates the menstrual cycle:
    FSH,Oestrogen, LH,Progestrone
  • FSH: produced by the pituitary gland,causes egg to mature and ovaries to release oestrogen
  • Oestrogen: prevents FSH release and causes LH to be released from pituitary gland
  • LH: triggers ovulation and empty follicle to release progesterone
  • Progestrone: inhibits FSH and LH to stop eggs maturing maintains uterus lining for pregnancy
  • a few days after ovulation,the empty follicle stops producing progesterone,causing the uterus lining to break down
