Filtration and Crystalisation

Cards (4)

  • Filtration is used to separate an insoluble solid from a liquid.
  • Filtration:
    • Put filter paper into a funnel leading to a conical flask
    • Add the mixture to the funnel
    • The liquid runs through the filter paper leaving behind the solid residue
  • Crystallisation is used to separate a soluble solid from a solution.
  • Crystallisation:
    • Pour the solution into an evaporating basin and heat to until most of the liquid has evaporated
    • Stop heating it and leave it to cool
    • Salt crystals form
