  • Collectivism:
    • Society is interconnected, it aims to improve, collectively the organisation of society
    • Humans should achieve their objectives through collective action rather than individual effort
  • Equality:
    • It is fundamental - egalitarianism
    • This is particularly expressed through economic equality:
    • 'Equality of outcome' - equal distribution of rewards (wealth = income)
  • Radicalism
    • In order to achieve 'equality of outcome' there must be a radical transformation of society (revolution)
  • Human nature:
    • Optimistic: society can function mutually, cooperatively.
  • Worker's control: (worker is the most important element of society)
    • partial/full ownership of an enterprise by its employees
    • Control of state
    • Control of industry
  • Labour movement = worker's rights
  • Common humanity
    • Human nature = social + tendency to co-operation, the individual cannot be understood without reference to society.
