Acid phosphatase

• Acid phosphatase has the Same function as alkaline phosphatase, but works at a pH of 5.0
• • Hemolysis causes false increase of acid phosphatase activity
• acid phosphatase specimens must be tested within at hour when stored at RT, uncapped sample more than an hour will lead to decreased acid phosphatase
• cause of decreased acid phosphatase at RT: CO2 will dissociate and evaporate; CO2 binds with water and forms carbonic acid, decreasing pH
