Lymphatic system

• functions of the lymphatic system:

  • collects fluid still in tissues and returns it to the circulatory system
  • internal defence against disease causing organisms
• lymph:

  • clear lughid that contains a high number og lymphocytes (white blood cells) and plasma
• structure of lymphatic system:

  • contains lymph
  • one way - carries fluid awat from tissues
  • networks of lymph cappileries joined to larger lymph vessles
  • lead to lymph nodes
• lymph nodes:

  • filter the lymph as it passes through them and adds lymphocytes to it
