  • what is type 2
•Type 2 diabetes is high blood sugar levels due to your body not making enough of a hormone called insulin, or the insulin it makes not working properly — known as insulin resistance.High blood sugar levels over time can cause other health problems like heart attacks and strokes, as well as problems with your eyes, kidneys, and feet. These are called diabetes complications.
  • what causes type 2
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin to maintain a normal blood glucose level, or the body becomes insulin resistance. Insulin moves glucose from your blood into your cells, where it’s converted into energy. However unlike type 1 type 2 diabetes can be prevented . You’re more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if you’re overweight or obese with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more. Fat around your abdomen particularly increases your risk as chemicals that can upset the body’s cardiovascular and metabolic systems.

  • you may be taking a combination of treatments.  Metformin (Fortamet, Glumetza, others) is generally the first medicine prescribed for type 2 diabetes. It works mainly by lowering glucose production in the liver and improving the body’s sensitivity to insulin so it uses insulin more effectively.
  • Glinides stimulate the pancreas to secrete more insulin. They’re faster acting than sulfonylureas. But their effect in the body is shorter. Examples include repaginate and nateglinide. Possible side effects include: Low blood sugar, Weight gain.
