Cards (2)

  • Adaptations of villi in the ileum that aid digestion ?
    • Increased SA for diff
    • Thin walls
    • Muscular so can move, maintains conc grads
    • Good blood supply
    • Have microvilli, increase SA
  • Describe the absorption of triglycerides ?
    • Micelles are transported to epithelial cell lining
    • they breakdown to release fatty acids and monoglycerides (non-polar so diffuse easily)
    • FA + mg transported to ER and recombine into triglycerides
    • In Golgi apparatus, triglycerides associate with cholesterol and lipoproteins to form chylomicrons
    • Move out of cell by exocytosis
    • Enter lymphatic capillaries called lacteals then pass into blood
