  • November 1905
    • The members of the St Petersburg Soviet who were mostly Mensheviks with a few Bolsheviks and SRs alongside the SR leaders of the Union of Peasants were arrested.
    • As a last act of resistance, the Bolsheviks organised an armed uprising in Moscow in December but this was easily crushed by loyal troops with around 1,000 rebels killed.
  • The Union of the Russian People was a new political party formed in October 1905 by right-wing nationalist Russians who received backing from the Tsar and the government
    • The Union used the "Black Hundreds" who were violent, anti-Semitic thugs that attacked opponents of the Tsar.
  • December 1905
    • The Black Hundreds murdered 500 Jews in a 3 day pogrom in Odessa.
    • They also attacked striking workers, rebellious peasants and protesting students.
