Cardiovascular

    Cards (13)

    • What does it consist of
Heart- muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body
blood vessels - arteries ,veins , capillaries
blood- made up of your red and white blood cells, plasma, platelets.
    • Chambers
      Right and left ventricle
      right and left atrium
    • Valve’s
4 valves to stop blood flowing backwards
    • Function
Provide oxygen, nutrients, hormones to muscles, tissues and organs throughout the body.
removes waste from cells and organs so the body can dispose of it.
    • Valves
      Triscupid
      pulmonary
      aortic
      mitral
    • 3 layers of the heart
      Outer- epicardium
      middle- myocardium
      inner- endocardium
    • Arteries
carry oxygenated blood away from the heart
      carry blood under high pressure
    • Veins
Carry deoxygenated blood towards the heart at a low pressure veins contain valves
    • overview
      • Deoxygenated blood comes into the right atrium of the body
      • it moves into the right ventricle
      • it is then pushed into the pulmonary arteries in the lungs
      • after picking up oxygen from the lungs the blood travels back to the heart through the pulmonary veins and into the left atrium
      • then to the left ventricle and out of the bodys tissues through the aorta
    • outer layer of the hearts functions
the outer layer is the epicardium its function is to provide protection to the heart
    • middle layer of the hearts function
the middle layer is the myocardium and it is responsible for the pumping action of the heart
    • the inner layer of the hearts function
the inner layer of the heart is the endocardium its function i is to provide a smooth lining for easy movement of blood .
    • cardiac conduction
electrical conduction causes muscle contractions and this is what forces blood in and out of the heart
the conduction , originates in the sinoatrial node then moves through the conduction pathway causing all areas of the heart to contract
