Transports oxygen from lungs to all respiring tissues,as haemoglobin transfers to oxyhemoglobin
Structure of Ref Blood Cell
Structure:No nucleus so more space for haemoglobin.Small and flexible so it can fit through narrow blood capillaries. Biconcaveii shape to maximise SA for oxygen absorption. Thin so short distance for oxygen to diffuse to reach centre of Cell
White Blood Cell
Fighting pathogens and clearing dead body cells. Phagocytes engulf and digest microorganisms that may cause an infection.Lymphocytes create antibodies that tackle antigens, and they attack foreign/infect cells.
Structure of White Blood Cells
Has a nucleus which is quite large.lt can move around and fit into walls of blood capillaries.
Platelets
Helps blood to clot
How Platelets stop bleeding?
-they have proteins on their surface that enable them to stick to breaks in a blood vessel and clump together
-they secrete proteins that result in a series of chemical reactions that make blood clot, which plugs a wound.
Structure of Platelets
Cell fragments produced by giant cells in bone marrow
