Defences against diseases in Humans

Cards (6)

  • Chemical barrier
Eyes produce tears, which contain enzymes
  • Physical Barrier
Skin and platlets prevent infection from pathogens
  • Physical Barrier
Nose produce mucus, which traps pathogens and it is sneezed out before entering body
  • Chemical Barrier
Stomach produces HCL which kills pathogens
  • Physical Barrier
Trachea hairs called cilia, which helps to move mucus and pathogens upwards to be swallowed into stomach
  • White Blood Cells
Phagocytes do phagocytosis whilst lymphocytes produce antitoxins to neutralise toxins in the body and produce antibodies, which are specific to antigen on pathogen so it can bind and clump the pathogen together so it can be eliminated via phagocytosis.
