Link Reaction

Cards (5)

  • The link reaction occurs in the matrix of the mitochondria
    1. The pyruvate (from glycolysis) is decarboxylated with the removal of one CO2 molecule as a waste product
  • 2. Dehydrogenation also takes place leading to
the formation of reduced NAD (NADH)
  • 3. Following decarboxylation and dehydrogenation, the resulting 2C acetate combines with co enzyme A to form the 2C acetyl CoA
  • 4. The link reaction happens TWICE, as two pyruvate are produced in glycolysis
