• Benedicts test to test for sugars

  • sugars can be cereal, bread, biscuits
  • add some benedics solution
  • if the soltions changes to blue, green, yellow to dark red it contains sugar
• iodine solution to test for starch

  • starch can be pasta, rice and potatoes
  • add iodine solution
  • if it turns browny-orange, black or dark blue
• Biuret test is to test for proteins

  • proteins can be meat, cheese
  • add Biuret solution
  • if it turns blue too purple then it contains protein
• sudan 3 test to test for lipids

  • lipids can be olive oil, milk
  • add sudan 3 stain solution
  • if it contains lipids a bright red layer will form at the top of the test tube
