    • Encoding
      Converting sensory information into a form that can be stored in the brain
    • Storage
      Storing the encoded information, can be short-term or long-term
    • Retrieval
      Being able to access and remember the stored information
    • Long-term memory is subject to change, we don't fully understand it
    • If a memory cannot be retrieved, it may as well be deleted
    • Short-term memories and long-term memories both need to be retrievable
    • Memories that are not used will become deleted or more difficult to retrieve, it's unclear if they are actually erased or just unretrievable
