physics energy

Cards (14)

  • Energy can be transferred between objects by doing work on them or heating them up, but cannot be created or destroyed.
  • Energy is the ability to do work, or to do work against resistance.
  • Energy is used for transportation, in offices, factories, schools and homes
  • Energy supply is anything that has the ability to provide energy to do work like fossil fuel, wind or water
  • Renewable
energy sources that can be used for a long period of time and will not run out. Examples: Solar, wind, hydropower, and biomass
  • Non-renewable
Energy sources that will eventually run out and cant be reused again until a long time. Example: coal, oil natural gas and nuclear energy (uranium)
  • Energy resource is anything we can obtain energy from.
  • Most of the energy we use comes from fossil fuel because they are very concentrated form of chemical energy. 50 litres of petrol can be pumped into a car within 1-2 minutes for 1000km
  • electricity is secondary energy source and fossil fuel/any fuel is the primary energy source.
  • boiler heats water/fossil fuel so steam reaches turbine
  • steam spins turbines which turns on a generator
  • inside the generator, there's a magnet inside a coil of wires. when the magnet spins, electricity is produced
  • fossil fuel is a type of fuel formed from the remains of animals and plants over millions of years. they turn to coal. oil, gas due to compression and we make use of it as energy fuel
  • about 1 in 8 of our energy comes from renewable energy
