  • The modern periodic table is arranged in increasing atomic number and elements with similar properties are in columns called groups. The group an element is in corresponds to the number of electrons in its outer shell.
  • In the modern periodic table, rows are called periods and every new period corresponds to the number of electron shells an atom has.
  • Non-metals are found towards the right and top of the periodic table and metals are to the left and towards the bottom.
  • Electron Shells:
    1. 2 electrons
    2. 8 electrons
    3. 8 electrons
  • Elements in group 8 have full outer shells.
