Tarquinius and the Etruscans (Lars Porsena)

• Superbus approaches Lars Porsena, the powerful king of Clusium for help
• Porsena demands Tarquinius restored as king of Rome or restore his possessions and Romans refuse
• roman's volunteer to hold a bridge to stop Lars Porsena from getting into the city
• one of the men who volunterred to hold the bridge was Horatius Cocles who was related to triplets in the story of the triplets of Rome against Alba Longa
• Horatius protects bridge and allows for Roman army to retreat, he then destroyed the bridge to prevent Lars Porsena from entering Rome and swam across river

  (Livy says he survived even if he was speared through his buttocks)

  doesn’t know what the king looks like so kills the secretary

  scared Lars Porsena by saying that he is the first of 300 people that are going to come and kill him

  after saying this he threw his hand into fire making Porsena retreat
