  • Industrial property, as one of the major branches of IP, is described as a physical matter that is a product of an idea or concept for commercial purposes

  • Advantage of Patent Information: Uniform structure, well-organized information, up-to-date information, wide fields of technology, find information sooner
  • Patent database: IPOPHL's Philpat, PatBase, WIPS Global, TotalPatents, WIPO's PATENTSCOPE
  • patentable inventions: a product such as machine, a device, process or method, computer-related inventions, and improvement of any of the foregoing
  • Non-patentable inventions: Discoveries, scientific theories, mathematical methods, schemes, rules, methods for treatment, aesthetic creations, contrary to public or morality, plant varieties or animal breeds
  • Utility Model or sometimes referred to as “patent-like” or “utility innovations” or “innovation patents”
  • Utility Model is a type of protection that also allows the creator or applicant to prevent others from commercially exploiting his/her UM without his authorization
  • UM is particularly suited for protecting inventions that make small improvements, and adaptations of, existing products or that have a short commercial life
