  She broke off their engagement when he became a catholic.
• Charles Cayley, a linguist proposed but she rejected him because he could not share her Anglican faith.
• Rossetti’s brother William description of her relationship with Charles Cayley:

  ‘although she would not be his wife no woman ever loved a man more deeply or constantly.’
• Several of Rossetti’s collections are dedicated to the children of either her brother William or Charles Cayley.
• It seems Rossetti had a continual sadness of her own childlessness but found comfort with her brother and former lovers children.
