    • Firstly, St Paul teaches that Jesus was fully god but did not use "being god" to his advantage. Instead, Jesus "emptied himself" and became a servant.
    • Secondly, St Paul teaches that Jesus was obedient even to the point of death and this shows humility.
    • Lasty, St Paul teaches that because of Jesus's humility Jesus was "exalted by god". So that "every knee shall bow and every tounge confess that Christ is the lord."

    • Humanists disagree with this statement.
    • Suffering causes great harm to humans, it can cause severe mental health issue and can cause the person to harm others.
    • Therefore, humanists believe we should show empathy and compassion to end the suffering instead of accepting it.

    • However, in this case Catholics believe that suffering is a blessing.
    • Beatitudes states "blessed are those who mourn they shall be comforted".
    • In suffering Jesus teaches we are closer to God and those who suffer will be rewarded as they have paid for their sins.

    • This is a flawed argument as it may lead people to accept terrible things in life instead of fighting for justice.
    • Catholics should work to end suffering and not accept it.

    • Catholics furthermore believe suffering can help us develop virtues.
    • "Suffering produces endurance, endurance produces hope"-St Paul
    • For Example, Brianna Gheys mother showed empathy and forgiveness, we can become better people by showing compassion to others suffering.
    • St Augustine teaches that through this suffering can also bring about good.
    • The suffering of Jesus on the cross saved us from sin and death.
  • Suffering is not always evil- Most Compelling Argument
    • In my judgement the most compelling is that of Catholics.
    • Whilst suffering can cause immense distress in one's life Catholics argue that suffering can also bring about good.
    • Brianna Gheys mother is a key example of this.
    • She is a key figure of someone who has brought about greater good in the world through suffering.
