prokaryotic/eukaryotic cells

Cards (5)

  • Prokaryotic-no (true) nucleus
    Eukaryotic-has a nucleus
  • Inside the nucleus of an eukaryotic cell, there is DNA wrapped around proteins called histones to form chromatin fibers.
  • Eukaryotic vs Prokaryotic Cell Structures:
    • Both contain similar organelles or subcellular structures.
    • Prokaryotes has no (true) nucleus while eukaryotes have a nucleus.
    • Eukaryotes is multicellar, meaning it contains loads of cells.
    • Prokaryotes is unicellular (one cell) as each cell is a whole organism.
  • Eukaryotic vs Prokaryotic Cell Structures:
    • Prokaryotes store DNA in a circular strand (and plasmids if needed) while eukaryotes stores it in a nucleus
    • Prokaryotic cells don't contain mitochondria or nucleus or chloroplasts but eukaryotic cells do contain these parts.
    • Eukaryotic cells divide using mitosis whereas prokaryotic cells divide using binary fission (by asexual reproduction).
    • Eurkaryotes are complex and prokaryotes are simple.
  • Prokaryotes are much smaller than eurkayotes.
