  • Intentional Injuries
    • Done in a way that is planned or intended.
    • Are injuries resulting from violence.
  • Types of Intentional Injuries
    • Self-inflicted - When a person harms themselves on purpose
    • Assault - When a person harms another on purpose
  • Suicide
    • Intentional taking of one's own life.
    • Many of those who attempt suicide do not receive mental and emotional counseling.
  • Domestic Violence

    • Includes physical assault, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and verbal abuse.
    • These are behaviors that are used by one person in a relationship who tries to control the other.

    • Name calling or put downs
    • Keeping a partner from contacting their family or friends
  • Bullying
    • An unwanted, aggressive behavior.
    • The behavior is repeated, or can be repeated, over time.
  • Types of Bullying
    • Verbal bullying - Saying or writing mean and nasty things, teasing, name-calling, taunting, sexual comments.
    • Social bullying - Hurting someone's reputation.
    • Physical bullying - Hurting a person's body or destroying their possessions.
    • Cyberbullying - Verbal and social bullying done through the use of technology and electronic means.
  • Stalking
    A pattern of behavior that makes you feel afraid, nervous, harassed, or in danger.
  • Sexual Abuse
    Unwanted or forced sexual contact
  • Incest
    Sexual contact between persons who are so closely related that it is considered illegal
  • Molestation
    The sexual abuse of a person (whether a child or adult) by an adult for sexual purposes
  • Rape
    Forced sexual intercourse
  • Extortion
    The act of illegally using force or threats to force people to hand over their money, properties, or favors
  • Gang
    • A relatively tough, street-based group of young people with similar backgrounds.
    • May be seen by others as a group that engages in a range of criminal activity and violence.
  • Fraternity
    A group of people with common occupations, interests, or backgrounds and tastes.
  • Hazing
    A series of initiation rites to become part of a brotherhood
  • Abduction
    The use of deceit or force in order to take a person, or a child, away from their home or relatives
  • Parasuicide
    • Attempt in which a person does not intended to die.
    • It is often a cry for help meaning, the person wants others to know what s/he is feeling.
