    1. Cuff around arm above elbow
    2. Stethoscope under cuff at brachial artery
    3. Inflate to 180 mm
    4. Listen for pulse
    5. Record 1st beat = systolic BP
    6. Record 1st point where pulse is no longer heard = diastolic BP
    7. Record: lying, sitting, standing, after exercise
  • 1st heart sound
    Lub, low-pitched, closing of auriculo-ventricular valve, ventricular systole
  • 2nd heart sound
    Dub, high-pitched, closing of semilunar valves, ventricular diastole
  • Place stethoscope at heart apex, between 5th & 6th rib, slightly to the left
