  • Tape measure - is used in taking body measurements for drafting, alternating, and laying out patterns on the fabric and in actual sewing.
  • Ruler - is used in drawing lines and marking fabrics.
  • Seam gauge - is used for measuring and marking short distance such as hems, ticks, and seam.
    1. Hem marker - is an accurate guided for measuring and making lines. A foot rule can be used in the absence of an adjustable hem marker.
    1. Hip curve - is used for shaping the hips and skirt hemline.
  • Tailor's square - is used to draw perpendicular lines determining square corners and dividing measurement.

  • Dressmaker's carbon paper - Is used to transfer construction marks from the pattern to the fabric with the help of a tracing wheel.
  • Needles - are made of stainless steel.
    1. Pins - are used to hold pieces of fabric together when sewing or cutting the fabric. Like needles, they are made of stainless steel.
    1. Thimble - a small cap, usually made of metal and plastic worn over the fingertip to protect it when pushing a needle through cloth in sewing.
  • Thread - is a kind of yarn used for hand sewing and in home sewing
    machines.
  • Pincushion - is a small firm cushion into which pins are stuck when not in
    use.
  • Emery bag - is used to sharpen pins and needles.
    1. Lockstitch Sewing Machine - This IS also called domestic sewing machine. It is run by foot and may also be converted to electric power machine. This is usually used in homes and sometimes in school.
  • Hi-Speed Lockstitch Sewing Machine- This Is sometimes called straight stitching machine or industrial sewing machine.
  • Buttonholer Machine- This is used making buttonholes on garments.
  • Button Attachment Machine - This type of machine works in a cycle and so this is called simple automatic machine.
  • Overedging Machine - Other companies call it small machine. It finishes the raw edges of the pattern for construction.
  • Embroidery Machine - This is used in making fancy stitches and in making different kinds of embroidery stitches on fabrics for the Barong Tagalog, pillow cases, linen, and other novelty items.
  • Free-motion sewing machine embroidery - Embroidered designs are created by using a basic zigzag sewing machine.
    As it is used primarily for tailoring, this type of machine lacks the automated features of a specialized machine.
  • Computerized machine embroidery - It uses an embroidery machine or sewing/embroidery machine.
