• What is a positive of the MSM

  There is supporting research evidence by studies showing that the LTM and STM are qualitatively different.

  Baddeley found that we mix up words of similar meaning in the LTM.

  Coding is acoustic in the STM and semantic in the LTM, supporting the MSM’s view that hate 2 memory stores are separate and independent.

  This supporting evidence adds validity to the idea that the LTM and STM are separate stores.
• limitation of MSM - more than one type of LTM 


  there is lots of research suggesting that the LTM is not a unitary memory store. we have different LTM’s for different memories and capabilities. therefore, the model is lacking and cannot be seen as a holistic model of memory.
• limitation of MSM - artificial materials 


  the memories we form in everyday life are related to many useful things like facts and places. Research uses artificial materials which have no meaning. This therefore questions the validity to support the MSM as it lacks mundane realism.
