  • 2.6.1.1 GENERAL

    Subpart 2.6 prescribes the requirements for issuing the following licenses and associated ratings and/or authorizations:
  • Licenses and associated ratings/authorizations
    • Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT)
    • Aviation Maintenance Specialist (AMS)
  • 2.6.2 AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (AMT)
  • 2.6.2.1: APPLICABILITY
  • 2.6.2.2: ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: GENERAL
    • Be at least 18 years of age
    • Demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
    • Comply with the knowledge, experience, and competency requirements
    • Pass all of the prescribed tests within a period of 24 months

    Rules and regulations relevant to an AMT license holder including applicable airworthiness requirements governing certification and continuing airworthiness of aircraft and approved aircraft maintenance organization procedures.
  • Natural Science and Aircraft General Knowledge
    Basic mathematics; units of measurement; fundamental principles and theory of physics and chemistry applicable to aircraft maintenance.
  • Aircraft Engineering
    Characteristics and applications of the materials of aircraft construction including principles of construction and functioning of aircraft structures, fastening techniques; powerplants and their associated systems, mechanical, fluid, electrical, and electronic power sources, aircraft instrument and display systems, aircraft control systems, and airborne navigation and communication systems.
  • Aircraft Maintenance
    Tasks required to ensure the continuing airworthiness of an aircraft including methods and procedures for the overhaul, repair, inspection, replacement, modification, or defect rectification of aircraft structures, components and systems in accordance with the methods prescribed in the relevant Maintenance Manuals and the applicable requirements of airworthiness.
  • Human Performance
    Human performance and limitations, including principles of threat and error management relevant to the duties of an aviation maintenance license holder.
  • 2.6.2.5: KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RATINGS
    • Airframe Maintenance practices and materials
    • Airframe systems and structures-fixed wing
    • Airframe systems and structures-rotary wing

  • 2.6.2.5: KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RATINGS
  • 2.6.2.6: SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • 2.6.2.7: EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Practical Experience Only: Airframe rating - 30 months, Powerplant rating - 30 months, Airframe and Powerplant ratings - 60 months
    • Approved Training: Airframe rating - 24 months, Powerplant rating - 24 months, Airframe and Powerplant ratings - 30 months
  • 2.6.2.8: PRIVILEGES & LIMITATIONS
    • Satisfactorily performed the work at an earlier date
    • Demonstrated the ability to perform the work to the satisfaction of the Authority
    • Received training acceptable to the Authority on the tasks to be performed
    • Performed the work while working under the direct supervision of a licensed AMT who is appropriately rated
  • 2.6.2.8: PRIVILEGES & LIMITATIONS
  • 2.6.2.9: DURATION OF LICENSE
  • 2.6.2.10: RECENT EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • Served as an AMT under his/her license and rating
    • Technically supervised other AMT's
    • Provided aviation maintenance instruction or served as the direct supervisor of persons providing aviation maintenance instruction for an AMT course or program acceptable to the Authority
    • Supervised the maintenance, preventive maintenance, or alteration of any aircraft, airframe, aircraft engine, propeller, appliance, component, or part thereof
  • 2.6.2.10: RECENT EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
