science q4 w2

Cards (20)

  • Lesson Objectives
    • Identify the Renewable and Non-Renewable resources of planet Earth
    • Classify resources as Renewable and Non-renewable
    • Recognize the importance of natural resources by using it wisely
  • Activity: Matchy-Matchy

    1. Match each raw material/resource in Column A and the good use to it in Column B
    2. Write only the letter of the correct answer on your boards
  • Natural Resources
The things that we can find in our environment that we use to meet our needs
  • Types of natural resources
    • Renewable
    • Non-renewable
  • Renewable resources
Materials that can be replaced easily or have the potential to be replaced over time
  • Renewable resources
    • Plants
    • Animals
    • Sunlight
    • Wind
  • Solar energy is renewable because the sun will always produce power. It is also green because solar power generation does not emit greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide.
  • Wind is a renewable energy source because it is not depleted when used. Because nature constantly replenishes the wind, we can continue to harness its power without worrying about running out of it.
  • Water is renewable because the water cycle is continually recycling itself. Water evaporates, forms clouds, and then rains down on Earth, starting the cycle again. Reservoirs created by dams can provide large, safe recreational space for a community.
  • Geothermal energy is heat within the earth. The word geothermal comes from the Greek words geo (earth) and therme (heat). Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source because heat is continuously produced inside the earth. People use geothermal heat for bathing, for heating buildings, and for generating electricity.
  • Biomass fuels are a renewable resource because they can be replaced fairly quickly (times ranging from one growing season to perhaps one or two decades) without permanently depleting Earth's natural resources.
  • Renewable energy resources
    • Solar
    • Wind
    • Water
    • Geothermal
    • Biomass
  • Non-renewable resources

Natural resources that are in limited supply or once consumed, cannot be replaced
  • Non-renewable resources
    • Minerals (such as metals such as aluminum and iron)
    • Fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas)
  • Non-renewable resources take a very long time to form. When we use these resources too quickly, they can run out because there is not enough time to replace them.
  • Fossil fuels
    Coal, petroleum, and natural gas
  • Coal, petroleum, and natural gas are considered nonrenewable because they can not be replenished in a short period of time.
  • Nuclear energy
Uses uranium to create energy, is a nonrenewable resource because once the uranium is used, it is gone
  • Ways of using Earth's resources sustainably
    • Recycle
    • Reuse
    • Reduce
    • Waste Management
    • Reforestation
    • Water Conservation
    • Energy Conservation
  • Our Natural Resources must be preserved and conserved for the benefit of the present and the coming generations. In order to do so, let us learn to TAKE CARE OF OUR EARTH.
