  • Major components of the earth's structure

    • Mantle
    • Crust
    • Inner core
    • Outer core
  • Plate boundaries
    • Constructive
    • Destructive
    • Conservative
  • Constructive boundary is the tectonic plates are moving away from one another. The earths crust us pulled apart.
  • The Earth’s atmosphere is made up of gases that surround our planet. It consists mainly of nitrogen (78%) oxygen (21%), argon (0.93%) and carbon dioxide (0.04%)
  • Destructive boundary is when and oceanic plate and continental plate move towards one another. They collide and the oceanic plate is forced under the continental plate.
  • Conservative boundary is when 2 crustal plates slide past eachother or they move along side eachother
  • Volcanoes are formed when the earths plates move together or apart, causing magma to rise to the surface. When magma reaches the surface, its called lava
  • Earthquakes occur at destructive plate boundaries where two plates meet and one slides beneath the other. This causes friction between the plates which builds pressure until it eventually releases as an earthquake
  • Earthquakes are formed as 2 plates move towards eachother, one can be pushed down under the other one and into the mantle. If this plate gets stuck it causes a lot strain in the surrounding rocks. Sideways-moving plates can also get stuck. When this tension in the rocks is finally released it produces strong shock waves knowns as seismic waves. This is called an earthquake.
