  • Culture is a specific dimension of the  existence and being of man. It creates among the persons within the community a complex of bonds, determining the interpersonal and social character of human experience. Man is both subject and creator of culture in which he express himself and finds his equilibrium.
    • In other words, we created our culture by communicating our values to one another, forming complex webs of relationships.
  • Media Literacy Education-Means teaching and learning about media, values and critical skills and necessary for living in the 21th century . The media literate person is aware of boundaries between reality  and constructed reality  of media and knows how to navigate them meaningful ways.
    • Media “BASHING” is not a media literacy; however media literacy sometimes involves ctricizing the media.
    • Media literacy does not mean “ don’t watch;” its means “ Watch carefull; think critically.”
  • Examining media in multiple positions is media literacy. Never look in just one perspective
  • ”Simply looking for political agendas stereotypes, or misrepresentations is not media literacy
    • The lens of Faith-The belief that all of creation can reveal God to us.
  • The lens of Mindfulness-Mindfulness is offering a reflective life strategy that questions and discerns.
  • The Church teaches that media are gifts of God that can be used to promote humanity as well as to lead people away from God.
  • The Church must utilize mass media not just for spreading the Gospel, but also for integrating salvation into the "new culture" shaped by modern communication tools. Embracing contemporary communication techniques and technologies is integral to its mission in the third millennium.
    • CCC 183 Faith is both a gift of God and a human act (in response to God) 
    • CCC 155 Faith commits our whole selves (mind, heart and will) to God
  • CCC 150 summarizes faith as the total commitment of a person to God, based on God's self-revelation through actions and words, requiring both intellectual and volitional assent.
  • CCC 176 “Faith in God leads us to turn to him alone as our first origin and our ultimate goal, and neither to prefer anything to him nor to substitute anything for him.”
  • Faith is our response to a loving God
    • “Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe in God and believe all that he has said and revealed to us, and that Holy Church proposes for our belief, because he is truth itself.
    • By faith ‘man freely commits his entire self to God.’ (DV 5) For this reason the believer seeks to know and do God's will. ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’ Living faith ‘work[s] through charity.’(Rom 1:17; Gal 5:6)” CCC 1814
  • Social media influencers are individual creators with large followings who produce personal content for various online platforms and monetize that content at least in part through marketing partnerships with brands and advertisers.
  • Users only read the things they want to know, also called superficial scanning, or only read what they are interested in, called selective perception.
    • SLACKTIVISM-activity that uses the internet to support political or social causes in a way that does not need much effort, for example creating or signing online petitions:Such forms of advocacy, particularly those related to social media, are often derisively referred to as “slacktivism” or “armchair activism.”
