  • Cigarette smoke contains four thousand chemicals, including cance-causing (carcinogen) compound like nicotine (bug sprays and insecticides), tar (roads), ammonia (cleaning products, hydrogen cyanide (gas changer), arsenic (rat poison), carbon monoxide, and formaldehyde.
  • Nicotine is a highly addictive substance in cigarettes. This is the reason why smoking is addictive.
  • Why do TEENS start smoking EARLY?
    1. Peer Pressure - think it is cool and they see their friends and peers smoke too.
    2. Curiosity - bored/think that smoking is an available opportunity.
    3. Media Advertisement - targets teenagers making it seem like smoking is cool and are signs of maturity and independence.
    4. Rebellion - show that they have control over everything.

  • Mainstream Smokers - directed to inhale smoke from burned cigarettes
    Second hand smoke - inhaled the smoke exhaled by the mainstream smokers.
    Third hand smoke - residual contamination from tobacco smoke that lingers in rooms after smoking stops and remains in clothes.
