Graphing Qualitative and Quantitative Data

Cards (10)

  • Quantitative - data that has to do with numbers
  • Qualitative - data that has to do with categories
  • Univariate - data with only one variable
  • Bivariate - data with two variables
  • Bar graph - Shows the distribution of measurements among categories, with the height (or length) of the bar measuring how often a particular category was observed.
  • Pie chart - Shows how the measurements are distributed among the categories.
    -compare parts of a whole
  • Line graph - Shows trends over time
    - Can use more than one on the same graph to compare data sets
    - Good for small amounts of data
  • Dot plot - Counts how many times data occurs (frequency)
    - Good for small amounts of data
  • Histogram - Counts how many times data occurs between set ranges
    - Good for large amounts of data
  • Stem leaf - simple way to present the distribution of quantitative data using the actual numerical values
