    Dr. James Naismith
    -        Naismith was born in 1861 in Ramsay Township, Ontario, Canada. He graduated as a physician at McGill University in Montreal and was primarily interested in sports physiology.

  • Passing – the most difficult skill, this skill requires your vision, touch, and strength.

  • Chest pass – ball is held in the chest area and is thrown to the receiver by  quickly extending the arms and hands
  • Bounce pass – ball is thrown and is allowed to bounce approx 2/3 of the way from passer to the receiver, used by small player who are guarded by taller players.
  • Overhead pass – this is two handed pass that is taken from above the head of the passer, best used by players guarded by shorter players.
  • Baseball/outlet pass – one handed pass similarly used in baseball game, which is aimed at allowing the ball to received from a longer distance.
  • Dribbling – important attacking skill dome by tapping of the ball with your fingers with one hand
  • Shooting – one of the most important basic skills in basketball because it gives your team a scoring point.
  • Set shot – done on free throw
  • Layup shot – done while player moves and throws the ball into basket.
  • Jump shot – done in bending down and jumping to shoot.
  • Hook shot – done by arching the far hand upward while moving sideways to the basket.
  • Slam dunk – done by a player who takes the ball and throws it down to the basket with great force.

  • Traveling – rotate fists
  • Basket interference – rotate finger
  • Direction of play – point direction call team color.
