- Naismith was born in 1861 in RamsayTownship, Ontario, Canada. He graduated as a physician at McGillUniversity in Montreal and was primarily interested in sports physiology.

Passing – the most difficult skill, this skill requires your vision, touch, and strength.
Ball handling – holding the ball correctly using your fingertips and not your palm.
Three basic kinds of pass
- Chest pass
- Bounce pass
- Overhead pass
Chest pass – ball is held in the chest area and is thrown to the receiver by quickly extending the arms and hands
Bounce pass – ball is thrown and is allowed to bounce approx 2/3 of the way from passer to the receiver, used by small player who are guarded by taller players.
Overhead pass – this is two handed pass that is taken from above the head of the passer, best used by players guarded by shorter players.
Baseball/outlet pass – one handed pass similarly used in baseball game, which is aimed at allowing the ball to received from a longer distance.
Dribbling – important attacking skill dome by tapping of the ball with your fingers with one hand
Shooting – one of the most important basic skills in basketball because it gives your team a scoring point.
Set shot – done on free throw
Layup shot – done while player moves and throws the ball into basket.
Jumpshot – done in bending down and jumping to shoot.
Hookshot – done by arching the far hand upward while moving sideways to the basket.
Slam dunk – done by a player who takes the ball and throws it down to the basket with great force.
