The menstrual cycle is the monthly process by which an egg matures, is released from the ovary, travels through the fallopian tube to the uterus, and is either fertilized or shed if not.
In men, testes produce the hormone testosterone and in women the ovaries produce oestrogen.
Every 28 days an egg is released and this is called ovulation.
If sperm meets with egg then it will be fertilised and develop into embryo
If there is no fertilisation then the lining of womb breaks down and blood is lost as period.
