structure of neuron

Subdecks (1)

Cards (12)

  • cell body?

contains nucleus and mitochondria so cell functions.
  • dendrites?

branches at top end of neuron, receive messages from other neurons to trigger action potential within cell.
  • axon?
extension of cell body that passes action potential (axon hillock attaches axon and cell body) to allow communication.
  • myelin sheath?
layers of fatty deposits that provide insulation and speeds up rate of message transmission (rodes of ranvier are gaps between myelin sheaths)
  • axon terminals?
end of axon, leads to terminal buttons where chemical message becomes contained in vesicle.
