  • Components of blood: Red, White, Platelets and Plasma.
  • Plasma is a liquid that carries the blood components. Including urea, hormones and Co2.
  • Red Blood cells carry oxygen from blood to lungs.
  • Red bloods cells have a biconcave disk shape (Large surface area). No nucleus (more room for oxygen). Haemoglobin (red colour).
  • White Blood cells are apart of the Immune system and are the bodys defence.
  • White blood cells have a nucleus. They produce antitoxins, antibodies and engulf pathogens.
  • Platelets is a small fragment of cells that form blood clots on wounds. Clot dries and forms a scab and new skin.
  • When a white blood cell engulfs pathogens it is called Phagocytosis
  • White blood cells release chemicals called antibodies to destroy pathogens.
