Coronary Heart Disease

• Coronary Heart Disease: Is when the artery that provides blood to the heart. Is blocked with cholesterol. This restricts bloodflow, restricting oxygen and puts strain on heart causing a Heart Attack.

  
• Treating Coronary Heart Disease: Stent (Metal tube widens lumen), Statin (drug that decreases cholesterol levels).

  
• Stents - Pros: Effective and lowers heart attacks and you recover fast from surgery.

  
• Stents- Cons: Risk of heart attack during surgery and blood clots can form near stent.

  
• Statins - Pros: reduce stroke, increase good cholesterol.

  
• Statins - Cons: Need to be taken regularly, side effects and not immediatley effective.
