  • Slave definition:
To be a slave is to be owned by another person. A slave is classed as property and works for nothing. Slavery refers to a condition in which
individuals are owned by others, who control where they live and at what they work
  • A slave has:
    • no freedom
    • no money
    • no choice
  • Slaves were punished for not following their master's orders, working too slowly, or attempting to runaway
  • Write a P.E.E. Paragraph about how the slave trade was justified by people who were involved in the trade.
The slave trade was justified by beliefs. The slave owners had many beliefs about the Africans, such as "Some people believed black people were lazy and without white people telling them what to do, they would sit around all day doing nothing." The slave owners believed that if they captured the Africans and made them work as slaves, the Africans would move around more and help out more and be less lazy, therefore they justified the slave trade by beliefs.
  • The triangle of the trade:
    • The outward passage from Britain to Africa carrying manufactured goods
    • The middle passage from Africa to America carrying slaves
    • The homeward passage from America to Britain carrying new materials
  • Describe the experience of slaves, during the Middle Passage.
During the Middle Passage, the slaves were on the lower deck of the boat and they were all chained together. It was very crowded on the boat and there was also limited food on the boat. There was often a terrible smell and diseases started to spread and some slaves even died. They were forced to dance for entertainment for the sailors and captain of the boat. If any of the slaves disobeyed the orders that was given to them, they would be punished.
