  • The biggest issue of the SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression) is gender inequality. During the pre-colonial Philippines, both women and men enjoy equal rights. However, when Spain colonized the country, their Western ideals had cemented the idea that women should serve men and that homosexuals had no place in society – or in the afterlife.
  • The Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression Bill (or SOGIE Bill) is written and deliberated in the Legislative branch. This bill, when ratified, ensures that everyone enjoys the same human rights to live, to work, to express themselves, to love and marry the ones they love, and to be free of discrimination.
  • Race is the idea that the human species is divided into distinct groups based on their shared inherited physical and behavioral differences. This notion sprang from the ideologies of the West during the Age of Exploration, where they got to visit lands beyond their own and began to profile themselves as the superior one above others.
  • Racism is the behaviors or attitudes that reflect and foster the belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits, where differences make one superior.
