movement in the 1890s.
Struve was leader of the moderate Russian
Marxists

Liberals.

, he was forced into exile in

After his German offices were raided, he fled to
Paris

The Union of
Liberation
formed in
1903
under the leadership of Pyotr Struve.
Struve had been publishing the
Liberation
newspaper in
Germany
from 1901.
Struve returned to Russia in
1905
and formed the
Kadets.
The
Kadets
became the largest party in the First
Duma
and Struve was elected to the Second
Duma
in
1907.
Struve went on to oppose the
Bolshevik
Revolution in
1917.
