The
Russian
people wanted the war to end.
It had brought
hardship
and
suffering.
Ending the war would come at a
high
cost.
Russia needed money from its
allies
to keep functioning and the requirement of the
funding
was staying in the war.
The PG was
committed
to fighting on.
The Soviet also rejected an immediate
peace
which would put Russia at the mercy of
imperial
Germany.
However, they also rejected a continuation of war which aimed to conquer and expand into
Eastern
Europe and
Turkey.
They agreed on a largely
defensive
war to protect Russia's territory.
A consequence of continuing the war was that the food and fuel
shortages
continued.
Workers wages continued to be
eroded
in value by the continuing inflation.
The PG became increasingly
unpopular
with workers.
Desertions
from the Army also increased.
