November 1917 - Decrees

• Decree on Workers Control

  • Gave workers' committees the right to control production and finance in factories.
  • Also gave them the right to "supervise management".
• Decree on Nationalities

  • Gave the right of self-determination to the national minorities formerly part of the Russian Empire.
  • Finland became independent in December.
  • Ukraine set up its own Parliament.
• The previous legal system was abolished and elected people's courts were established.
• Titles and class distinctions were abolished.

  • Everyone was now considered to be a "citizen".
  • Party members could be called "comrades".
• Women were declared equal to men and were allowed to own property.
