A small country made up of over 1000 little islands
In the Indian ocean
The lowest country in the world- the highest point is only 2.5m above sea level
Some islands have already been evacuated because of sea level rise
The Maldives is an island nation located southwest of India
It has a population of around 400,000 people living on 1200 islands
The Maldives has a tropical climate with high temperatures all year round, but there are two seasons - dry season (December to April) and wet season (May to November)
Most of these islands are low lying coral atolls with sandy beaches and lagoons
The Maldives is vulnerable to natural disasters such as cyclones, tsunamis, floods, droughts, and coral bleaching due to its low elevation and location on tectonic plates.
