  • Controls and procedures of bales:
    Store bales on a level, well-drained surface away from overhead power lines.
    Avoid getting on top of bales and remove them using bale-handling equipment operated by a competent person.

    Children mustn't be allowed unsupervised access, children over 14 should receive formal training before operating tractors, and noone under 18 should operate harvesters, sprayers or chainsaws.

    All stacks should be built carefully as to not collapse.
  • Controls and procedures of livestock?
    Children shouldn't be allowed near female animals with newborn young or when animals are let out of winter housing as they can become excited or agitated.

    Should be surrounded by 1.8m high fencing and manholes should be secure and not easily opened.
  • Controls and procedures of quad bikes and ATV's?
    Appropriate training on how to drive it, wear PPE, keep the vehicle well maintained and check tyre pressure.

    Should never be overfilled and the pits should be designed in accordance with the specifications set out by the DAFM.

    The sale and use of pesticides is regulaated by the DAFM, read the label and SDS, minimise run-off.

    Wear PPE and ensure there is good ventilation.

    Wear PPE as they can be corrosive to the skin and eyes.

    Use needle guards and respiratory protective equipment when necessary.

    Have two people lift loads heavier than 50kg, break the load down into smaller sizes if possible and avoid lifting more than you can manage.

    Ensure buildings are well ventilated and don't disturb mouldy bales.

    Keep tractor doors shut, have a silencer on loud equipment and wear ear defenders.

    Get sufficient sleep, excercise, diet and talk to family and friends.
  • Controls and procedures of tractor loads?
    It's a legal requirement to have equipment used to lift loads examined regularly by a competent person.
  • Controls and procedures of harvest machinery?
    Inspect and prepare all machinery before starting, check for hydraulic leaks and beware of overhead electrical lines.
