    • Marriage.
      - Catholics believe that God instituted marriage as part of creating the world.

      - Marriage bears witness to everlasting love of Christ for his church.

      - Loving, having a relationship of love and faithfulness.
      - Lifelong, having a lifelong support and comfort of each other.
      - Exclusive, being committed to only one marriage partner.

      - Unites a couple in faithful and mutual love.
      - Marriage opens a couple to the giving of new life.
      - Marriage is a way to respond to God's call to holiness.

      - Genesis 1:28 "be fruitful and multiply."
    • Sexual Relationships.
      Premarital, sex before marriage.
      Cohabitation, couple lives together before marriage.
      Same-sex, this is between the same sex.
      Extramarital sex, this is adultery.

      - Catholics do not agree in sex before marriage.
      - All forms of contraception are wrong.
      - Couple should be faithful.

      Luke 6:31 "treat others as you would like to be treated."
    • The Family.
      - Catholics believe the family was created by God.

      - The family is the domestic church, that should be a community of faith, hope and charity.

      - The family is where the children experience the Catholic faith and learn to pray.

      Purposes:
      - Lifelong relationships.
      - Support and comfort of each other.
      - To procreate and have children.
      - To be a sign of Christs love.
    • Support for the family.
      Family Worship.
      - Attending mass is an opportunity for the family to be together.
      - A liturgy more suitable for children helps to encourage.

      Classes for parents:
      - Parents are welcomed into the parish to learn about the sacraments which can help them to better understand the Catholic teaching.

      - CCC 2226 - 'Parents have the mission of teaching their children.
    • Family Planning
      Catholic teaching:
      - All forms of contraception are wrong.
      - Only the natural method of family planning is acceptable.

      - Teaching is important because the Church feels that contraception undermines relations as unitive and procreative.

      - Humans do not have the power to contradict the will of God, regarding life.
      - Sex outside marriage is wrong.
    • Divorce, annulment and remarriage.
      - The Church does not believe divorce from sacramental marriage is possible.

      - Annulment, can only take place under strict circumstances.

      - The Church recognises civil divorce may sometimes be necessary.

      - other Christians do not encourage divorce.

      Importance:
      - Matrimony is a sacrament and should be preserved.
      - Catholics believe the needs of the family and children come above an individual.
      - Effects on the couple and their children can be significant and long-lasting in an unhappy family home.
    • Equality of men and women in the family.
      - Both men and women are made in the image of God and are equal.

      - Genesis 1:27 'God created man in his own image.'
      - Eve was created from the rib of Adam.
      - Both Adam and Eve were cursed for their disobedience.

      - Catholic church believe that men and women have an equal role in the church.
    • Gender prejudice and discrimination.
      - Gender prejudice, believing people of one gender are inferior or superior purely on the basis of their sex.

      - Discrimination, treating people less favourably because of their gender, ethnicity, colour, sexuality and age.

      - Sexism is discriminating against people because of their gender.

      - Some passages in the Bible can be interpreted to suggest gender inequality, but others suggest men and women should be equal.

      - Jesus did not discriminated against women, and set an example for Catholics today to follow.

      - Christian denominations vary in the roles they allow women within their churches.
