Mitosis #1

Cards (8)

  • Mitosis
The process of dividing the nuclear material and ending wish Cell Division
  • 1. Each new cell has a nucleus with a complete set of DNA
    2. All new cells formed by mitosis are identical to each other
  • Phases of cell cycle
    • most cells life cycle involves periods of growth and life processes and periods of cell division
    • the periods of rest and cellular processes is called interphase
  • Mitosis
    The dividing stage
  • Interphase
    1. During interphase, the cell grows, replicates its DNA and prepares for the next division cycle.
    2. During interphase, the Chromatin is in a relaxed state inside the nucleus. Just before the cell is going to divide, the chromatin will condense into chromosomes
    3. each chromosome consists of 2 sister chromatids joined together by a centromere .
  • Cytokinesis
    1. Animal cells: Membrane pinches in the middle called a cleavage furrow
    2. Plant cells: Cell plate forms between the two nuclei
  • New cells formed by mitosis are called daughter cells
  • 1)Prophase Chromatin into chromosomes, the nuclear envelope break down, chromosomes attach to spindle fibres by their centromeres. 2)Metaphase Chromosomes line up along the metaphase plate (centre of the cell). 3)Anaphase Sister chromatids are pulled to opposite poles of the cell. 4)Telophase Nuclear envelope reforms, chromosomes unfold into chromatin, cytokinesis can begin.
