  • The award is tied with a program that ensures the transfer of their skills to the next generation and the promotion of the craft both locally and internationally
  • Criteria for identifying and recognizing a person as Manlilikha ng Bayan
    • He/she/group is an inhabitant of an indigenous/traditional cultural community
    • He/she/group must have engaged in a folk art tradition that has been in existence and documented for at least fifty (50) years
    • He/she/group must have consistently performed or produced over a significant period, works of superior and distinctive quality
    • He/she/group must possess a mastery of tools and materials needed by the art, and must have an established reputation in the art as master and maker of works of extraordinary technical quality
    • He/she/group must have passed on and/or will pass on to other members of the community their skills in the folk art for which the community is traditionally known
  • In case a Manlilikha ng Bayan candidate is incapable of teaching further his/her craft and skill due to age or infinity, they should have created a significant body of work and has contributed to the development of the tradition and craft, played a role in the preservation and revitalization of the artistic tradition in the community, and have been recognized as a master of his/her craft in his/her community
  • Benefits and privileges for individual awardees
    • The rank and title of Manlilikha ng Bayan
    • The GAMABA gold-plated medallion minted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and citation
    • A lifetime emolument and materials and physical benefits comparable in value to those received by the highest officers of the land
    • A state funeral, the arrangements for and the expenses of which shall be borne by the Government, upon the death of the Manlilikha ng Bayan
    • A place of honor, in line with protocol precedence, in state functions, national commemoration ceremonies and all other cultural presentations
  • Benefits and privileges for group awardees
    • The rank and title of Manlilikha ng Bayan
    • The GAMABA plaque for the group
    • A one-time award of Two Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 200,000.00), net of taxes
    • The group shall designate its leader who will represent and attend events and functions on behalf of the group
