1. Nail art is no longer new, it has existed for long of years ago, and its head up in the fashion world and makes an impact, each time becoming bolder, creative and expressive.
2. During the early times, painted nails were exclusive to show social status. To begin with, the earliest record of nail painting was in ancient Babylonia around 5000 BCE when men colored their nails. The nail colors were used to distinguish the class to which a lady belonged. The higher class wore deep red paints, which acted as the status symbol. The ladies from the lower class wore pale shades.
3. Another civilization, that has shown modernization in the 5000 B.C was the Indian civilization. Indian ladies used to paint their fingertips with a dye called henna. Today's nail paints can be traced to 3000 B.C China. They mixed gelatin, egg whites, lacquer of gum, beeswax, vegetable dyes and for the colors, they used to crush rose petals and orchids. It was applied and left on the nails overnight to achieve better results.
4. In the middle ages, manicure was considered a thing of the past. The kind of nail art that we see today, with animal prints, floral designs on the nails, contributed by the Incas. Victorian ladies practiced manicures with nail art. The first bottle of modern nail polish made its appearance on the market in the year 1932, followed by the creation of fake nails in 1934. Fake nails were adopted in Hollywood in the 1970s and French manicure was introduced. In the years the 1990s to 2000 the existence in the market of neon nail paints, nude shades, glowing fuchsia, shocking blue and pink.
5. In 2008, gel polishes and DIY techniques were introduced in the market and became popular among womenfolk of all ages and countries.
6. Since nail art has become more creative and artistic and many trends have followed, such as the addition of symbols, crystals, airbrushing, nail wraps, magnetic polish, crackle polish, acrylic, gel polish and the list goes on. Nail art has truly become integrated into the world of fashion and is now sported as an accessory to any look.
