ICT:SOIL MOISTURE SENSOR

Cards (9)

  • Soil Moisture Sensor
Used to measure the volumetric water content of soil
  • How does a Soil Moisture Sensor work?
    1. Fork-shaped probe with two exposed conductors acts as a variable resistor
    2. Resistance varies inversely with soil moisture
    3. Sensor produces an output voltage according to the resistance
    4. Measuring the output voltage determines the soil moisture level
  • Soil Moisture Sensor
    • Consists of two parts: Probe and Module
    • Probe acts as a variable resistor with resistance varying according to soil moisture
    • Module connects the probe to the Arduino board and generates an output voltage based on the resistance of the probe
  • Parts of Soil Moisture Sensor Module
    • Analog Output (AO) pin
    • Digital Output (DO) pin
    • Potentiometer for adjusting sensitivity of digital output
    • Power LED
    • Status LED
  • Analog Output (AO)

Generates analog output voltage proportional to the soil moisture level
  • Digital Output (DO)

Indicates whether the soil moisture level is within the limit (LOW when moisture level exceeds threshold, HIGH otherwise)
  • It is recommended to power the sensor from 3.3V to 5V, as the analog output will vary depending on the voltage supplied
  • To avoid accelerated corrosion, it is recommended to turn on the sensor only when taking readings by connecting the power pin to a digital pin on the Arduino and setting it to HIGH or LOW as needed
  • Give the four (4) pinouts of SOIL MOISTURE RENSOR?
    AO, DO, VCC, GND
