  • Pure random: If large enough, the sample should be representative of the total population. The sample is selected purely by random chance, everyone has an equal chance to be selected
  • Stratified random: To ensure a more representative sample, researchers can use a more sophisticated sampling technique (e.g. stratified). This involves splitting the sampling frame on the basis of a characteristic that is important to the research and selecting at random from the sections.
